Sigourney Weaver has revealed she likes watching episodes of The with her husband in their spare time. 

The Avatar star, 73, who is married to stage director Jim Simpson, 66, told the that the couple enjoy watching the show because the contestants are all ‘supportive and nice’ to each other. 

She added: ‘So hard-working and they come from such different backgrounds. Being half-English, I’m terribly proud to see this expression of British diversity and bonhomie.’

The star said: ‘It’s very inspiring because right now America is so polarised, there is so much resentment and fear of immigration [so it is great] to see this show where there are people from so many different places and everyone shines, and Britain shines.’ 

Great British Bake Off is judged by Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith and features 10 contestants doing challenges every week in a bid to become champion.

Elsewhere, Meryl Streep, 73, also admitted a penchant for British television including Homes Under the Hammer, Grand Designs and Come Dine With Me. JJ Abrams, director of The Force Awakens is a huge Downton Abbey fan- he even went to visit the set.   

And Snoop Dogg loves Coronation Street while Will Smith is obsessed with EastEnders.

It comes after Sigourney  for the world premiere of her latest film, James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of the Water.

The actress, who is inspired by Dame Maggie Smith, 87, has no plans to retire from acting just yet as she has two more Avatar films to do. 

The film will be released on December 16 and the t, flying pterodactyl like beings that take them over a gorgeous waterfall.

Sigourney, who was also in Doc Martin, spoke of her time in Cornwall filming in 2015.

She explained that filming for the show was relaxed and that she immediately felt part of the Doc Martin ‘family.’ 

While they were in Cornwall, layarkaca 21 they would go to a local pizzeria every week for a quiz, which she said was fun.
