World War, also known as the Great War, was a global conflict that lasted from 1914 to 1918. It involved the majority of the world’s major powers, divided into two opposing alliances: the Allies (comprised of France, Russia, and Britain) and the Central Powers (comprised of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire). The war began with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914. This incident triggered a chain of events that led to the outbreak of war.
Germany, under Kaiser Wilhelm II, saw an opportunity to assert its power and expand its territory. The country also wanted to challenge the British Empire’s naval supremacy and become a dominant force in Europe. The war quickly spread across Europe, with Germany invading Belgium and France. The Allies responded by declaring war on Germany. The conflict soon turned into a global war as other nations, including the United States, Japan, and Italy, entered the fray.
The war was fought on multiple fronts, with battles taking place in Europe, Africa, and Asia. It was characterized by trench warfare, where soldiers dug deep trenches to protect themselves from enemy fire. The use of new technologies, such as machine guns, tanks, and chemical weapons, made the war even more deadly.
